Victor is a writer, editor, lecturer and research fellow attached to the School of Communication and Arts at the University of Queensland, in Australia. His PhD dissertation, "The Journey of the Queer 'I'" was a study of spiritual autobiographies by gay men.  In 2010 he published a critical biography of the British expatriate writer Christopher Isherwood - Mr Isherwood Changes Trains - focusing on the often misunderstood 40 year relationship between Isherwood and his guru, Swami Prabhavananda, of the Vedanta Society of Southern California. In 2015 Victor published a memoir, The Boy in the Yellow Dresswhich detailed his journey of discovery with his own guru.
